No, but I think going from ~5% to ~25% in one generation is too sudden. It would be less problematic if it occurred more slowly. Also depends a lot on cultural similarity - Ireland could probably stay stable with 1 million Scots, Kiwis or Italians moving in 1 decade, but not 1 million Algerians.
Numbers like 10 million and 20 million mean nothing, it's all about urbanization and planning policy. Ireland could house 60 million people if it had Taiwanese population density (indeed, it might be close to that figure if not for the Famine - England is relatively close in size to Ireland, had a similar population pre-Famine, now hosts 7x or 8x the population). But what matters is immigration relative to existing local population
I would agree that rate of growth is an important factor, but total population is also a fair question. You’ve visited some of those much denser population countries, so I was asking if that’s what you ultimately would want for Ireland.
Maybe Argentines and Uruguayans and Chileans of mainly Irish descent (there are plenty of Irish in that part of South America) could apply for an Irish passport and move to Ireland.
Do you see Ireland as “full”? If not, what is a reasonable upper limit? 10 million? 20 million?
